Debate in
Science and Health
Cornell University
Public
Debates
We hold two to three public debates every semester in collaboration with various other student organizations and professors on topics related to health, science, and technology. Past topics have included universal healthcare, the morality of eating meat, and abortion rights. In conjunction with regular preparatory sessions, these debates are open to any member of our organization to participate in and offer a formal and public opportunity to develop and strengthen essential public speaking and debating skills.
Public
Forums
Our public forums are held every other week in between our speaking workshops and allow members of the Cornell and Greater Ithaca community to come and engage in lively discussions on current and controversial topics in health, science, and technology. We emphasize an open and safe environment for these roundtable discussions that enables all attendees to express their opinions as well as practice their speaking and communication skills.
Speaking Workshops
Our speaking workshops are held every other week and offer students a chance to practice and hone their public speaking skills. The workshops are led by an experienced member of the club and employ a collaborative learning style where we support and advise each other. We focus on developing strong arguments, clearly articulating our points, and gaining confidence speaking in front of an audience. We welcome anyone to come and participate, no matter your level of background experience.
